  • Private Members Bill would revoke taxpayer-funded pension for politicians convicted of serious crimes against taxpayers, such as theft, fraud and breach of trust

OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today launched a new radio ad campaign in support of Private Members Bill C-518.

The bill, if passed, would revoke the taxpayer-funded pension of MPs and Senators convicted of serious crimes against taxpayers. The bill is scheduled to return to Parliament for third reading near the end of this month.

“We already have convicted politicians, Raymond Lavigne and Joe Fontana collecting their taxpayer-funded pensions and if this bill isn’t passed and made law before the end of the spring session, we could see even more criminal politicians cashing cheques,” CTF Federal Director Aaron Wudrick.

The ad, which will beginning running on select radio stations in target ridings on January 20, is also available on the CTF website at:  http://www.taxpayer.com/others/radio-ad

“We are concerned that support for this Bill is beginning to soften,” added Wudrick. “And as third reading is a free vote, we are calling on MPs from all parties to support this bill.”
